Joining the Police Service can take a long time and involve a number of steps, including, initial application via C.V. or formal application, an assessement day with the College of Policing, called SEARCH, followed by an interview with the relevant police force, and fitness test.

Huw, our coach, has experience of coaching officers through the promotion process. His sessions will equip you with the knowledge of how to evidence your skills in a structured way, that will answer any question posed by interview panels. Huw has the ability to identify evidence of leadership skills from his experience of training over 300 interviewers, assessment of 100’s of mock interviews, and providing feedback to candidates from recruitment interviews.
Huw was a trainer in the Leadership Unit, who developed, wrote and delivered the current Leadership Programme, he was also the lead trainer on the Joint Emergency Services Interoperability Programme (JESIP), which delivered decision making in major incidents to Senior Leaders and Chief Officers across the blue light services. He has experience of delivering training in areas such as Emotional Intelligence, Unconscious Bias and Change, as well as being the primary trainer within the Hydra unit for People Leadership for First Line and Middle leaders.
Huw has successfully advised a number of candidates who achieved promotion during the last round of GMP promotions in 2015 and has all the necessary skills to assist you in your development. One newly promoted Sergeant on the Leadership Course said, “The only reason I am here as a newly promoted Sergeant is because of the advice Huw gave me following a mock interview.” A recent client also said when asked if the session represented value for money “ Very much so. I have applied for several police forces and been a special and a police staff employee. However I
wasn’t passing the assessments and interview to join as an officer. I had passed and failed the assessment centre and also a final interview. I really wasn’t sure what I was doing
I booked Huw for a session to get me through the assessment centre, in particular the interview portion of it. Huw went through the answer models and we developed my examples to fit the competencies being tested. A passing mark was obtained.
I also booked Huw to get me through my final interview where we developed my answers to reflect the deeper understanding of the competencies and better sell myself in the interview. I was successful and now on my way to my dream career which I’ve worked long and hard for.
